Canon IXUS 50 digital camera review : Beginning of this year Canon introduced a complete new range of digital cameras, amongst them the new Canon Digital IXUS 50. This extremely compact digital camera, designed on the basis of the previously introduced Canon Digital IXUS 40, is placed in a neatly finished metal housing. Despite its small appearance the Canon IXUS 50 has more to offer than you'd think at first glance. The Canon Digital IXUS 50 doesn't yield in anything to his big brother the Canon IXUS 700.

The Canon IXUS 50 digital camera is the logical next step in the flourishing IXUS digital camera range. The Digital IXUS guaranteed success from the minute the digital camera was introduced. If it wasn't for the compact size, then it was the beautiful design the consumer went for. And some years later we have come to the latest Digital IXUS sibling; the Canon Digital IXUS 50.
Canon IXUS 50 - DIGIC II processor
There are hardly any limits encountered when cropping a captured moment, thanks to the image sensor with 5 Megapixel resolution. The appliance of the advanced DIGIC II processor, which is also found on the latest Canon digital SLR cameras, makes speed a convincing term on the small compact IXUS camera. The second generation DIGIC II processor should guarantee improvements concerning colour graduations and precise white balance and should also enable complex processing algorithms without diminishing the overall performance of the Canon IXUS 50 digital camera. Moreover; the fast startup time and the high processing speed of storing the images will make photographing a pleasant activity.

Canon U.S.A. has long been a dominant player in the film and digital camera markets, well-known for their high-quality optics, technical innovations, and aggressive product development. Over the last few years, they've developed a powerful lineup of digital cameras, ranging from surprisingly feature-rich entry-level models, all the way to the extreme high end of professional digital SLRs. Last year, their PowerShot G2 prosumer model was one of the top two or three cameras on the entire Imaging Resource site, a fact I attribute to the superb job Canon did in designing and producing it. - The G2 was one of those rare cameras that really hit all the right notes with the "enthusiast" crowd, offering a rich feature set and excellent image quality.
Now, Canon has updated the G2, calling the result the PowerShot G3. To the surprise of many, they eschewed the five megapixel sensors employed by many of their competitors in high-end prosumer models, choosing instead to stay with the proven four megapixel chip first seen in the G2. (I'm told the reason for this is that Canon was unwilling to accept the image noise tradeoff that the current crop of 5 megapixel CCDs require.) While the sensor has remained the same, numerous feature and user interface enhancements (including a new 4x zoom lens with fast f/2.0 maximum aperture) combine to result in a noticeably different user experience. Read on below for the full story, but based on my early look at the new model, I'd say Canon has come up with a very worthy successor to the wildly popular G2.

Canon PowerShot A590 IS
The Canon PowerShot A590 IS is a entry-level camera that doesn't skimp on features. It offers a 4X optical zoom, image stabilization, a 2.5" LCD display, full manual controls, and a VGA movie mode. Not a bad deal for a camera selling for around $160!

They include a 32MB Secure Digital card with the PowerShot A590, which holds eight photos at the highest image quality setting. That means that you'll want to buy a larger memory card right away, unless you already have one. The A590 supports numerous types of flash memory, including SD, SDHC, MMC, MMCplus, and HC MMCplus. I'd stick with the first two, as they're the most readily available, and more likely to be compatible with card readers, printers, etc -- and go for one 1GB in size. While it's worth spending a little extra for for a high speed card, there's no need to go overboard with a 300X ultra ultra extreme card.

The PowerShot A590 is just shy of the top spot for battery life in this class (when equipped with decent NiMH batteries, that is). It offers a roughly 10% improvement over its predecessor, as well.

The PowerShot A590 has a built-in lens cover, so there's no clunky lens cap to deal with.

The chart illustrates why I've long been a fan of the A-series cameras: they're very expandable. The one thing not supported here is an underwater case -- Canon offered one for the A590's predecessor, the PowerShot A570 IS.
Canon includes version 33 of their Digital Camera Solution Disk with the PowerShot A590. The first part of the Browser software that you'll probably encounter is Camera Window (pictured above), and you'll use it to download photos from your camera.
Once that's done you'll find yourself in either ImageBrowser or ZoomBrowser, for Mac and Windows respectively. The Mac version is Universal, allowing it to run at full speed on Intel-based systems. The Browser twins let you view, organize, e-mail, and print your photos. If you categorized any photos on the camera (more on this later) then that information is transferred over to the Browser software.

DigitalCameraInfo reviews Canon PowerShot SD700 IS digital camera and concludes that the Canon PowerShot SD700 IS packs a solid set of components into its sturdy and trendy body. This 6-megapixel digital camera has a 4x optical zoom lens that is lengthier than the average and nicely complemented by an optical image stabilization system. The system has several modes optimized for different purposes like saving battery(Canon NB-5L Battery) power and shooting horizontally moving subjects, but all of them work really well, both works when snapping still images and when recording video. While the Canon SD700 also has an optical viewfinder, it is more for decoration than anything else. Its inaccuracy and blurry view is nearly useless, but the 2.5-inch LCD screen is much more inviting to look at anyway, even with a disappointing 173,000-pixel resolution. A 100 percent accurate view and a wide viewing angle that can be seen in bright daylight or the dark of night are definite assets.
However, the Canon PowerShot SD700 does have its quirks: it has a cool Jump feature to navigate large amounts of photos, but no deletion feature to scroll through and select a partial order of pictures to delete. The viewfinder is inaccurate and the handling is complicated by the small size. Perhaps the biggest impediment for the Canon PowerShot SD700 IS is its price. At a time when other manufacturers are offering similar features for $399 or less, the SD700 is being released at a retail price of $499. Sure, it has an awesome image stabilization system and takes excellent pictures but it will sure hurt the pocket book.
Digital Camera Tracker reviews Canon PowerShot SD700 IS and concludes with rating score of 8.5 out of 10 that Canon’s SD700 IS was enjoyable and easy. In the picture quality area there is nothing to complain about because the SDF630 delivers outstanding photos with vivid color. It’s fast to turn on, power up and recycle time between shots seemed almost instantaneous.
This camera has the Point-and-Shoot photographer written all over it. It’s fast, it’s stylish, and it’s reliable. But it’s not cheap! This camera is NOT for anyone who needs/wants control over aperture and shutter speeds. While the cmaera does have a manual setting is a bit of joke.
Steve’s DigiCams reviews Canon PowerShot SD700IS and concludes that the PowerShot SD700 is another outstanding member of Canon’s Digital ELPH series, offering great image quality, robust performance, and useful exposure modes, all packed in an ultra-compact, durable and stylish shell. It’s sure to make an excellent choice for any user in the market for an extremely pocketable 4x zoom, high resolution digicam. At about US$499 MSRP, it is roughly $100 more expensive than its SD630 sibling, but its combination of 4x optical zoom lens and Image Stabilization will be worth the extra cost to those who need those features.
The Age reviews Canon Ixus 800is digital camera and concludes that Canon Ixus 800is goes to the top of the list of pocketable digicams alongside Sony’s DSC-W100. The Sony has more pixels on a bigger sensor but the Canon wins in the glamour stakes. Both have optical viewfinders. The Canon has image stabilisation and costs $100 more. Both are highly recommended.
Digital Camera Review concludes that “with several trade shows to attend each year, a couple of my colleagues ended up with the SD700 IS. They don’t like to carry large cameras, but were getting increasingly disappointed with the images from their older, slim cameras that didn’t do well in low light. With the SD700 IS, they get a camera that can take excellent shots of the latest and greatest electronics in the sometimes challenging light of trade show exhibits. All while still being small enough to easily pocket and not be too noticeable.
The above example is only one of many situations where the SD700 IS feature set will come in handy. It has excellent image quality, good battery life(Canon NB-5L Battery), and very fast operation.
